Q. Where are you located?
A. We do not have a physical location. SNSI is not a full-service veterinary clinic, nor a spay/neuter clinic. Instead, SNSI sponsors several different low-cost spay/neuter programs throughout the year. Surgeries are scheduled and performed at participating clinics located in many Central Indiana communities.
We are sometimes confused with the FACE low cost spay/neuter clinic or Indy Feral, the feral and unowned cat assistance group, but we are a separate organization.
Q. What programs do you offer and what does it cost?
A. Please see our Programs page for information on programs.
Q. I don’t qualify for your program. What can I do?
A. See the Indianapolis Animal Outreach Assistance sheet and our resource page for information on other low cost spay/neuter resources.
You may also wish to call around to veterinarians and see if any would be willing to work with you on a payment plan over time, or they may be able to recommend a pet insurance program or discount program that is right for your needs.
Q. I have a female dog; is that spayed or neutered?
A. Females, regardless of cat or dog, are spayed while males, again regardless of cat or dog, are neutered.
Q. How old does my pet have to be to be spayed or neutered?
A. Our participating clinics set their own guidelines, however in general, puppies can be spayed or neutered at about 4 months old. Kittens should be spayed or neutered at around 4 months as long as they weigh at least 2 pounds.
Q. My pet is pregnant; can she still be spayed?
A. This is up to each individual vet; however, many will if early in pregnancy.
Q. I have a medical question or concern about my pet. Can you help?
A. No. Please contact a veterinarian. We are a non-profit group that assists people with the cost of spay or neuter surgery. Because we do not run a clinic ourselves or have a vet on staff, we can not answer specific medical questions.
Q. I want to declaw my cat, will you help pay for the declaw surgery?
A. No. Declaw surgery is an optional procedure that is not covered under any of our programs. If you use our programs and wish to have your cat declawed please discuss the procedure and costs with the clinic when you call for an appointment.
Q. Where is the closest veterinarian to me?
A. Veterinarians are located in Anderson, Avon, Camby, Fishers, Franklin, Greenfield, Greenwood, Indianapolis, Martinsville, New Palestine, Noblesville, and Sheridan. The list of which clinics participate will be on your certificate. You might choose a vet close to home or close to work depending on your schedule or routine.
Q. Will you help pay for anything else?
A. No, just routine spay/neuter surgery. It is important that you communicate with the clinic you choose. When calling for an appointment, be sure to ask the clinic if there are any other required services for which you will be charged.
Q. Can you tell me where to find low cost veterinary services, vaccinations, etc?
A. Please see the enclosed Indianapolis Animal Outreach Assistance sheet for information.
You may also wish to call around to veterinarians and see if any would be willing to work with you on a payment plan over time, or they may be able to recommend a pet insurance program or discount program that is right for your needs.
Q. Can you help me with trapping and/or transport to and from the vet?
A. We can not assist with anything other than the cost of spay or neuter surgery. Please see the enclosed Indianapolis Animal Outreach Assistance sheet and our resource page for groups that may be able to help you.
