Support SNSI's effort to apply for an Indiana Pet-Friendly License Plate

Support Indiana's "Pet Friendly" License Plate

SNSI's Board of Directors has begun the process of applying for an Indiana "pet friendly" license plate! We are applying for the plate with the intention that the proceeds will go into a state-wide spay/neuter assistance fund that will work like SNSI's current Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), which subsidizes spay/neuter surgeries for low-income Indiana residents. In addition, the fund will be used to provide spay/neuter surgeries for other animal welfare organizations in Indiana.

We see this fund as a way to penetrate areas that don't have low-cost alternatives, as well as a way to bolster existing spay/neuter efforts throughout the state.

A specialty plate costs an additional $40, of which $25 goes to the organization. This can translate into hundreds of additional spay/neuter surgeries each year in Indiana!

The license plate application will be submitted by March 31, 2010. Please watch our website or join our email list for new information as we work through this process.

UPDATED INFORMATION

As of April 1, the license plate application was submitted with over 1,400 signatures of Indiana residents committed to purchasing the plate if it is issued. The minimum number of signatures required to apply for a specialty plate is 500, so we are encouraged that demand will help get the plate approved. We should find out by June 1, 2010 whether or not the pet friendly license plate is approved.

UPDATED INFORMATION

As of June 1, our application has been approved.
We expect the Pet Friendly license plate to be available in 2011.

As you already know, we applied for the plate to expand our current Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) state-wide. SNAP subsidizes spay/neuter surgeries for low-income Indiana residents. In addition, proceeds will be used to pay for spay/neuter surgeries for other animal welfare organizations in Indiana.

A specialty plate costs an additional $40, of which $25 goes to the organization. This can translate into hundreds of additional spay/neuter surgeries each year in Indiana. However, we still need your help! SNSI will likely not begin to receive license proceeds until 2012, but our reserves are running low now.

Please consider making a donation to SNSI now so that we may continue to respond to the many requests we receive each day.
