SNSI CELEBRATES 100,000th SPAY-NEUTER SURGERY
Tattoo rescued from shelter to find forever home
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (APRIL 25, 2016) Tattoo is a young, male, mixed breed who had little hope of survival after being picked up as a stray by and never claimed from Indianapolis Animal Care and Control (IACC) earlier this year. Then, Idaville rescue organization Last Call K9s pulled Tattoo from the shelter and worked with Spay–Neuter Services of Indiana (SNSI) to get Tattoo neutered and adoption ready.
While there was no confetti, balloons or fanfare, there is much to celebrate — Tattoo represents the 100,000th spay-neuter surgery provided by SNSI since its inception in 1977! Every day, groups like Last Call K9s quietly and diligently work with SNSI to break the cycle of shelter overpopulation and the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy and treatable dogs and cats by spaying and neutering.
“Indiana shelters are frequently overcrowded, and it takes the collective efforts of many to move each animal from risk of euthanasia into successful adoption,” said Cheri Storms, president of SNSI. “Unfortunately, there are too many animals and too few homes for every animal to have a happy ending. That’s why it’s critical that we spay/neuter to prevent shelter overpopulation. This is the permanent solution.”
SNSI has facilitated surgeries for 100,000 dogs and cats, working through 120 shared-mission veterinarians in the SNSI network. Last Call K9s is just one of more than 200 rescue groups and shelters that receive free spay/neuter surgery certificates from SNSI. Limited income residents can apply to SNSI’s Spay-Neuter Assistance Program to receive $20 surgeries.
“Knowing that you are literally the last call for these dogs and saving them…words can’t describe,” said Emily Zieseniss, vice president of Last Call K9s. Together, SNSI and Last Call K9s celebrate this 100,000th spay-neuter surgery for Tattoo, knowing that it brings Indiana one step closer to a permanent, ‘no-kill’ solution.”
The funding for SNSI’s programs is made possible through donations, grants, and from revenues from the sale of the Indiana Pet Friendly License Plate, now the #2 selling specialty plate in Indiana. SNSI encourages Hoosier motorists to purchase a Pet Friendly License Plate to show their love of animals. To learn more about SNSI and the Pet Friendly plate, visit http://www.getthemfixed.org/
